I have spent most of this century tramping the streets of London and learning the fascinating history of these streets and the people who occupied them. This has involved exploring some of London’s hidden byways and little used back allies, going places that few people know and discovering hidden gems of architecture and learning enthralling tales about characters that inhabited these byways.
My Walking Tours are designed to Enlighten and Entertain you with tales from these streets and hopefully, to discover hidden areas of our great City that will open your eyes to see behind the buildings facades.
Qualifications include City of London, Clerkenwell and Islington, City of Westminster, and Camden Tour Guides Association. Not spending my time entirely out on the streets, I also Guide at St Paul’s Cathedral, St John’s Gate and the Foundling Museum.
My other passion is Art, with an MA and BA in the History of Art. This interest allows me to share the joys of some of London’s best known and loved Art Galleries. Tours include Tate Britain, Tate Modern, The National Gallery, Guildhall Art Gallery and the Wallace Collection. My selection of paintings can be eclectic, but always includes well known works. This interest in art also takes in museums and what better ones can there be to explore the artefacts and treasures of the world, than the British and the Victoria and Albert Museums.
The commercial art galleries of Mayfair and the East End can be a little daunting to visit when you have to ring a bell to enter what can seem a very private and elitist world. There are though just expensive shops and I arrange visits around some of the often fascinating exhibitions they hold displaying the work of world famous artists, both Contemporary and Old Masters.
