Course Details

The course is limited to a maximum of 20 students. The cost of the course this year is £800.

The number of sessions will be confirmed to applicants at interview stage but we anticipate running about 30 Wednesday evening classroom based sessions which will consist of lectures, group-work and group discussions, case studies and student presentations. These will take place each week from September to May  at a location in central London. You will be required to do some of your coursework in groups so a willingness to co-operate with your peers is essential.
There will also be approximately 15 Saturday half day sessions, scheduled on alternate weeks. We will be out and about in the Borough of Camden and will focus on practical guiding skills and the delivery of entertaining and informative walking tours. Locations will vary according to the syllabus, but will be scheduled in advance.
You will be required to submit a satisfactory written project, pass a written exam and pass two practical exams. One practical exam takes place at an internal site (this year we were hosted by The Foundling Museum) and one on the streets of Camden. The two examinations will take place between January and late May/early June.
External examiners will be used to assist with the assessment of the practical guiding examinations and a moderator has been appointed to review the marking of the written examination and the project. Upon successful completion of the course, you will be awarded a badge from the Camden Tour Guides Association. This will recognise your achievement as a qualified guide in the Borough of Camden. Graduates are normally presented with their badges by the Mayor of Camden in the Mayor’s parlour at the Town Hall.
